What is Journeys in Faith?  
Come down to coffee hour and find out.

Learn about this opportunity to set aside time this Fall and Winter for reflection on our faith and faith community.  Journey with others who are considering joining St. Mark's, being baptized, or affirming their baptism.  You'll find members of the Journeys in Faith team at a table in Heritage Hall during coffee hours.  All questions are welcome.  Contact Liv Beck (beckliv@gmail.com) for more information.

 

Oktoberfest—Oct. 4
Please join in a celebration of German heritage and community at the annual St. Mark's Oktoberfest on Sunday, October 4 from 12 noon -3pm on St. Mark's square! There will be German music, food and libation, games, a bouncy house and great fun.  Lederhosen and German dress are encouraged.  All are welcome and we ask that youplease RSVP on the sign-up sheet in Heritage Hall. Volunteers are needed so please contact Lisa Gray (lisa.graysf@gmail.com), Matt Helland (helland@nka.com) or Mark Semonian (semonians@sbcglobal.net) if you are interested in helping at the event. The church council has set up a designated fund to assist Pr. Bekah with medical and living expenses.  If you would like to donate to this fund, please make your check payable to St. Mark's and note Pastoral Fund in the notation.  Thank you. 

Lands of Luther trip still has room for more!
Join Pr. Elizabeth and Pr. Hans for an 11 day excursion to the hear of Luther's Germany, Oct. 30 - Nov. 9.  

We have 26 participants signed up and there is room for more.  Our faith will come alive and our appreciation for Luther's contributions to the world will deepen through exploring "Luther Country".  If you'd like to receive a brochure about the trip, please contact Pr. Volunteer Appreciation Sunday 9/13/15
Thank you St. Mark's volunteers!  Please join in celebration of all the volunteers who contribute to the success of St. Mark's ministries, committees and our community.  The dedication, generosity, time and talents of our volunteers are greatly appreciated and their contributions are vital to sustain and grow our community.  Please plan to attend services on September 13 when special recognition and thanks will be given to our volunteers and we will celebrate their contributions. Cake will be provided at the coffee hours and we hope you can join in fellowship and gratitude following the services.

Note: We will not be participating in "God's Work Our Hands" on this Sunday.

Founders' Day at PLTS
Pacific Lutheran Theological Seminary will be having a Founder's Day celebration with guest speaker Madeline Forell Marshall. Madeline Forell Marshall is a specialist in eighteenth-century literature who has sought to recover the religious dimension and context of eighteenth-century poetry in books and numbers of presentations and articles. The event will be on Wednesday, September 23, 2015 at PLTS Chapel of the Cross. 9am-1:30pm. All are welcome! http://www.plts.edu/events/?event_id=3534

Filming in the Sanctuary
Please note, the Sanctuary will be closed from 9am-5pm on September 3 and September 4. Students from the USC School of Cinematic Arts be filming a short film about a deaf boy and girl who meet and fall in love in a church. If you have any questions please contact Chiara at

New Parking Code for Ellis St. lot
We have changed the security code in our lot for security purposes.  The new code is 9731.  Please note that the west side of the parking lot is for church use only.

Labor Day
St. Mark’s office will be closed on MondaySept. 7 for Labor Day.  We resume regular hours on Tuesday Sept. 8.

Women’s Monthly Study Gatherings
All women are welcome to come and study together at our evening and/or morning Women of the ELCA Gatherings.  In September our groups will meet on:
Evening Gathering - September 1from 6:30pm to 8:30pm in the Fireside Room
All women are invited to come for dessert and fellowship for the first half hour and then discussion until 8:30.   This month we will be reading For Such a Time as This by Kathryn Mary Lohre.

Second Tuesday - September 8 from 11:00am to 1:00pm in the Fireside Room
All women are invited to come for study at 11:00 and then at noon to eat their sandwich or salad and share fellowship.  Drinks and dessert will be provided.  This year our focus will be on Slow Faith by Liv Larson Andrews and our program topic for September is “Sabbath Keeping”

ULC Auditorium Closed September 5 through September 7
Please note that the 2nd floor of the ULC building will be closed so the tile floor can be cleaned and resealed. The Auditorium, the Auditorium Lobby, the ULC Kitchen, and the hallway outside the Fireside Room will also be closed off. The area will be closed beginning at 11:30am, Saturday, September 5 through 11:30am, Monday, September 7. Donate Flowers in 2015
The 2015 Flower donation chart is posted in the hallway across from the church kitchen. St. Mark's members and friends can sign up to donate flowers for the chancel on a Sunday by placing your name on the chart for the Sunday you wish. Your donation can be in memory of a loved one or in honor of a particular occasion. The donation is $50 and can be paid via check in the offering plate. Please note "Flowers" in the memo of the check.
