Creation Sunday

The word of God is a refining fire. Jesus is the great divide in human history. He invites our undivided attention and devotion. Today, in the assembly, we are surrounded by “so great a cloud of witnesses.” In the word and in the holy communion we are invited yet again to look to Jesus, “the pioneer and perfecter of our faith.”

Blessing and Send off to College
On August 21, 2016 at the 11:00 am service, we would like to give thanks and blessing to our college bound young adults. If you or anyone in our community is going to college for their first year or returning to their universities, please let Pastor Tita know to be included in the blessing and send-off.

Flooring, Elevator, Windows Update (FEW Committee)
The FEW Committee met Tuesday, August 9th, with elevator Architect ARG and the landscape consultant. Minor revisions to the elevator plans were presented and discussed. The plans will be submitted to the Planning Department on August 26th. The landscape consultant presented a plan for the addition of 3 rows of attractive planters over the stairs on the west side of the church near the proposed elevator. Construction of the elevator to begin by the Spring of 2017. The flooring project has begun with the removal of pews into Heritage Hall. The art glass window restoration continues with work proceeding on the southeast window.

Communion with Creation: Sunday, August 14
Our Sunday worship will begin indoors and move outdoors, into engagement with the more-than-human natural world.  Usually, worship is exclusively indoors, but for one Sunday, we will orient our perspective toward the larger world of creation.  Be sure to bring a warm jacket for our San Francisco summers!  And plan to arrive on time, as the congregation will face the plaza during worship.  You can enter the ULC through the plaza or through the O’Farrell St doors.  Chairs will be provided outside for people who need them.  See you next Sunday as we visibly widen our worship circle to include humans and more than humans!

Pastoral Care during the summer months
Both Pastor Tita and Pr. Elizabeth will be taking vacations during the summer.  They have arranged their schedules so one of them is available for pastoral care in the event of any emergency.

Please contact the church office to ask which Pastor is available.  In the event that both of them are not available, our Visitation Pastor, Rev. Chuck Lewis, is also on-call and can be reached at (415) 956-2069

Help Wanted and Needed!
Presently we are in great need of more Assisting Ministers and Acolytes.  If you are interested in serving in either or both of these important ministries of worship please speak with either of our Sacristans.  Sacristan Richard Boyle will be available after both worship services this month to train anyone interested in participating in these ministries.  Don’t be shy.  The training is not difficult, and the view from the chancel is lovely!

Interfaith Calendar and Activities in the Bay Area
Check out the websites - www.interfaith-presidio.org and www.sfinterfaithcouncil.org which highlight Interfaith events and activities throughout the Bay Area.  There are many to choose from as we continue to take the first steps in getting to know our Interfaith neighbors.
