VIEWING THE CHURCH
Built in 1894, St. Mark’s church building is an official, historic landmark of San Francisco. The church was renovated and rededicated in 2006, with many of the original details and finishes restored. With its beautiful stained glass windows, refinished interior, and grand Taylor & Boody pipe organ, the Sanctuary makes a lasting impression.
You are invited to worship at St. Mark's at the 9:00 or 11:00 am services any Sunday morning to view the Sanctuary. This will allow you to experience the acoustics and setting while people are gathered, and to hear the organ and vocalists. Viewing the church at any other time is by appointment only.
St. Mark’s clergy officiate at all wedding ceremonies. Clergy are assigned according to their availability. Guest clergy may be invited to assist St. Mark’s clergy at the request of the bridal couple and with approval of the Lead Pastor at St. Mark’s.
Pre-wedding counseling is required of all couples. The purpose is to review together the Christian understanding of marriage as a permanent covenant of fidelity, and to discuss issues pertinent to the couple’s relationship.
Couples are encouraged to seek pre-wedding counseling with clergy of their home church. Otherwise, St. Mark’s will happily provide you with these services. Please contact the Events Administrator for further details.
St. Mark’s will provide a Wedding Coordinator who is responsible for assisting the officiating Pastor in all arrangements for the service at St. Mark’s. The Wedding Coordinator will contact you shortly after the confirmation of your wedding date. The Wedding Coordinator will assist you with arrangements for your florist and your photographer, lead your rehearsal, and be on site the day of your wedding to assist the wedding party and Pastor. The Wedding Coordinator will answer any questions you may have, be your main point of contact and will serve as the liaison between St. Mark’s and your wedding service.
The Director of Music and Liturgy for St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Dr. Timothy Zerlang, will assist you in the selection of appropriate music for the service. All music must be cleared with him to assure its appropriate character. Dr. Zerlang is the primary musician for all services. In the event he is unavailable to play for your ceremony, he will provide a suitable replacement. If you choose to have a soloist or any additional special music, you are asked to discuss this with Dr. Zerlang. St. Mark's can provide a soloist. Many weddings include a congregational hymn, and we are pleased to encourage this.
